Ferro Scanning Kent

Kent’s built environment carries a genuinely varied history, from the naval dockyard heritage of Chatham and Medway to Ashford’s mid-twentieth-century expansion as an overspill town for London. We bring this local understanding to every ferro scanning survey we carry out across the county.

How Ferro Scanning Works

Our surveyors scan the concrete surface using GPR, recording variations in the radar signal as it passes through the structure. Reinforcement produces a distinct signal response compared to the surrounding concrete, allowing us to map its position and depth accurately. Results are marked directly on site, giving your team a clear, immediate reference for exactly where it’s safe to drill, cut or core, and where reinforcement needs to be avoided or accounted for.

Why Cover Depth Matters

Reinforcement that’s too close to the surface, or a cover depth that doesn’t match what the original design specified, can indicate a structure isn’t performing as intended, sometimes due to poor original construction, sometimes due to deterioration over time. Identifying this before structural work begins gives engineers accurate information to assess a structure’s condition, rather than working from assumptions based on the building’s age or design drawings that may no longer reflect what’s actually there.

Ferro Scanning Across Kent

We carry out ferro scanning surveys for residential, commercial and industrial projects across Kent and Sussex, from single-room refurbishments through to larger structural assessments ahead of extension or redevelopment work. Whatever the age or type of the building, our approach stays the same: accurate detection, clearly marked results, and data your project team can act on with confidence. We’re SSIP and ISO accredited, and our team of over 25 surveying professionals delivers ferro scanning surveys across Kent and the wider South East.
