Underground Utility Survey Surrey

Every piece of equipment that we use to carry out our surveys is as up-to-date as possible; this goes for both our GPR and electromagnetic equipment. By combining these tools, we are able to skilfully deliver the best results and the most accurate underground utility surveys to all of our clients from Surrey and beyond.

Surrey’s Layered Commuter Towns

Towns like Guildford, Woking and Reigate have grown steadily as part of London’s commuter belt for well over a century, meaning underground infrastructure has often been added, repaired and extended across multiple decades. Being so close to London, Surrey has absorbed a lot of the capital’s overspill development over the years, which means many of its streets carry a similar layered utility history to parts of outer London itself, just recorded to varying standards depending on when each phase of development took place. This is particularly relevant for extension and renovation work common across the county, where established streets frequently carry utility layouts that predate current mapping standards, making an on-site survey more reliable than relying on existing records alone.

Ground Conditions That Vary Across the County

Surrey’s geology ranges from sandy Bagshot soils in the west to heavier London clay closer to its northern boundary, nearer the capital, and this affects how clearly our detection equipment can resolve what’s below ground. Sandy ground generally allows better penetration and clearer results, while denser clay can limit depth, so our surveyors adjust their approach depending on which part of Surrey a site falls in.

Working Between Surrey and London

Because Surrey sits right on London’s doorstep, a lot of the projects we survey in the county are connected in some way to the capital, whether that’s a development extending outward from London’s edge or a client managing sites across both areas. Our team is used to working across this boundary, applying the same standard of accuracy whether a site sits firmly within Surrey or just over the border into Greater London.
