Rebar Mapping
Before you cut, drill or core into a concrete structure, you need to know exactly where the reinforcement is. Subvision Surveys carries out rebar mapping using ground-penetrating radar and cover meter equipment, giving you an accurate, on-site record of reinforcement position, orientation and cover depth before any work begins.
Before the Survey
We start by understanding your project, what work is planned, the type of structure involved, and whether there are any known drawings or previous surveys to reference. This helps our surveyors plan the right approach for the structure in question, whether that’s a straightforward slab, a reinforced wall, or a more complex structural element with multiple layers of rebar.
On Site: How We Scan
Our surveyors scan the concrete surface on a systematic grid using GPR, recording variations in the radar signal as it passes through the structure. Reinforcement produces a distinct signal response compared to the surrounding concrete, allowing us to map its position and depth accurately. Results are marked directly on the surface as we go, giving your team an immediate, physical reference for exactly where it’s safe to drill, cut or core.
Rebar Mapping – What You’re Left With
Alongside the on-site markings, you’ll receive a written report and, where required, a CAD drawing documenting rebar position, orientation and cover depth across the surveyed area. This gives your project team a lasting record to refer back to, useful not just for the immediate work planned, but for any future alterations to the same structure.
